Wee Hat the First
The first of the wee hats is done. I'm now madly in love with this whole concept. But really, what's not to love. First, hats. Hats are more or less instant gratification. Second, worsted. Worsted weight yarn actually knits itself. You just have to nudge it gently and the finished thing falls off your needles. Third, Malabrigo. This one requires no explanation, just look at the color. Colors. I'm helpless in the face of such temptation. Fourth, stripes. Stripes are the (or at least this) lazy person's answer to colorwork. I swear you never ever ever touch more than one [...]
Growing
Alrighty. You should be able to see what's going on here now a bit better. It's about 4.5 inches tall now and I'm really liking it. The colors absolutely work together (not sure I could wear that particular color of greeny-yellow without looking like I'd eaten bad clams, but the sprocket in question totally can). I'm doing this neat scrunchy stitch that sort of rucks the fabric up into little riffles. Let's see if I can show that to you, it's hard to see straight on, but if we swing around and look from the side maybe? And no, it's [...]
Wee Hats, Part 1 (Not so Wee)
I've learned something. Five year olds have heads that are more or less the same size as adult humans. At least some five year olds do. My secret plan is to go for super stretchy and thus forgiving as to size (and also hopefully thus somewhat long lasting). This is Malabrigo Worsted in Emerald and Frank Ochre. The colors were somewhat dictated by what was in the stash at the moment. It was late, I needed a cast on fix right then, (there would be none of this leaving the house and procuring yarn or ordering and waiting for the [...]
Unheard Of I Tell You
As predicted, 45 minutes of knitting brought about the end of the second sock. That's two whole socks...all the way down to the toes. I wouldn't make such a big deal of this, but these are the, um, second pair of socks I've managed to finish this year. Now that doesn't mean I haven't had socks on the mind (I've spent lots of quality time thinking about all the socks for KCC2), just that I haven't had many socks on the needles. I rather miss them. Especially when they come out like these! But, it seems my very next project [...]
Success
We had the photo shoot. I remembered to bring both the camera and all the knitting. No one died of heat stroke. We did not get arrested (opinions vary on whether we were, strictly speaking, allowed to be in that building at that time). All in all, the day was a rousing success. Oh, and we got good pictures too! These are just a few of the favorites of the moment. There are lots more to be seen later. Tumult cowl: Clamor hat: Uproar cuff:
Stacks
I feel a tiny bit bad that it's been so long since I've put out a pattern. The last one was Chamfer in what, February? Now to be fair, the e version of The Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet did go live in March, so it's not like you've not got something to keep your needles busy. But still, I'm used to putting out an individual pattern every month or so, and the longer time frame is making me a bit twitchy. But never fear, it's all in the service of a bigger project! After seeing how much fun Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet [...]
Less Crumpled
Still not benefiting from a full on proper block, but at least here it's pulled a bit smoother than before. The difference is encouraging. With any luck at all, I'll have it finished tomorrow. Next will come a vigorous blocking session for all the mini book pieces. The Boy and I checked out the planned location for the photoshoot this weekend, and I think we'll be able to get some really good shots. In the meantime, I've been putting all of your bugbite solutions to the test. So far, Benadryl seems to be working best for me. I'll continue the [...]
Crumpled
This is the final piece for the mini book I mentioned the other day. It's still in the ever-exciting 'crumpled pile of crap' phase that most knitting projects have to endure. I have great faith though, and I'm pretty darn sure it will be properly cute once I have a bit more done (and once it gets a suitably vicious block). The mini book is coming along well. Next up is a wee photo shoot, maybe even this coming weekend (which is good because if we wait too much longer we risk heat stroke while modeling knitwear, and that's no [...]
Deceptively Adorable
The hat is done...washed, blocked, and otherwise prepped. It is totally and completely adorable. That is, it is totally and completely adorable when I have it on my head. It looks rather goofy and lumpy when on Alphonse the handy hat form. For you see, Alphonse is about the size of a normal person's head. My giant dome is a good 2 and a half inches bigger (blame the hair...or maybe I drank too much milk as a kid). All of which means that a hat that fits me doesn't quite fit Alphonse. Some time I'll try and get a [...]
