Full, or half?
Ok, as of yet scandalously unblocked, but still done enough to see how cute they are! Which one do you like better, the full cable (the darker one on the left) or the half cable (the lighter one on the right)? You can do a folded or a straight brim on either, so don't let that distract you. I'm actually sort of torn myself and don't seem to be able to pick a favorite... Told'ja the top was nifty! I've got to get the mitts out (that should be here in just a day or two), but this is off with testers now, and should be the next thing out after that!

What I want right now.
So I mean just because there isn't any suspense about running out of yarn doesn't mean there's no fun to be had. You might even make the argument that the lack of suspense means it's all fun and absolutely no stress. Which again, is more or less what I want from my world right now. Thick, cozy, smooshy fabric. Absolutely delicious yarns. Not even a hint of stress or drama. I'll do that all day every day.
Yarn Math
I know math isn't everyone's favorite thing, but there's one Very Tiny Math Nugget that comes in super handy pretty much every time I knit something, so I want to make sure you have it in your bag of tricks. There's a point in pretty much every project where I find myself wanting to know 'how much yarn is that?' Sometimes I want to know 'how much yarn did I use in this hat?' Fickle
Yup, scandalously unblocked, ends flapping in the breeze, and yet I love it still. But...But I want the zig zag on more of the hat. For I am a fickle and prone to exuberance. Reasonable
Two things. One, this is just about ready for the decreases. Two, I am in no way ready to be done knitting on it. The only reasonable thing to do is knit another version. But first? First I have to finish this one and then break out the scale/raid the stash and do some yarn math. In other words, Finish One Project Before Starting The Next. And we all know how well that goes...
Roll call
Oh, let's talk about the yarns I used on this hat. You'll want three, one floofy, two smooth. I know mixing and matching yarn can be a tiiiiny bit scary, but it's actually sort of fun once you get the hang of it, and it's a fantastic way to use some of those partial balls left over from other projects! For the smooth yarns, you want them to both be about the same weight (here they're both La Bien Aimée's merino dk). The weight itself doesn't matter much. Fluffy
Ever see a stitch you just want to burrow into and take a nap? Because I'm pretty sure this is about the closest I've ever seen a stitch get to 'fluffy duvet on a cold, rainy afternoon when you're exhausted and really really really need a nap.' Something about the structure of it just makes it feel so snuggly and welcoming. Especially when it's knit with a yarn combo like this, where it's fairly loosely knit, but the fuzzy yarn keeps it feeling solid. It manages that drapey-but-warm thing that is just pure magic.
