Progress

This is absolute crap and has been thoroughly condemned and ruthlessly ripped. There may have been some sort of free form verse composed to celebrate its demise.  Or maybe just some heartfelt profanity.  And yet I've called this post progress.  And I stand by this title. You see, there was a time, not that long ago, when I would have kept on knitting.  Kept on knitting on this sock that is obviously too big for any human leg.  That's because I would have somehow convinced myself that 'it will be smaller off the needles.'  Note, I've also been known to [...]

One Down

See, I told you it was making progress.  I'm rather taken with these.  What do you think, do they work for you too?  The color here is a tiny bit off, but it's snowing outside and I don't feel like either putting on my coat or going outside in my jammies.  You'll have to just imagine it a bit more orange and a bit less pink. The mate to this one is on the needles now, but is making slow progress.  It's not the pattern's fault though.  Not at all.  The pattern is surprisingly close to autopilot knitting (despite what [...]

No Really…It Will Be Cute

Back in March, I went to the Black Swamp Spinner's Guild Market Day.  I bought pencil roving.  I brought it home and, within a day or two, I cast on for a hat.  It was a hat of epic failure.  It was too big.  Massively too big.  Even for my giant head.  There was no saving it. I eventually ripped and set the yarn in the active project basket in the family room.  This basket is on the top shelf of the bookcase and had always been safe from kitten depredations.  This time, not so much.  There is something about [...]

Smitten

I'm rather taken with these.   I worried at first that the yarn would be too busy for the pattern, but I think it's working out.  The stitch pattern is sort of magical...super stretchy (looks much better once it's on a leg and under a bit more tension), works up quickly, and easy to just read your knitting and see what comes next.  Now...would someone like to come finish them up for me so I can hurry up and wear them?

Warm and Spiky

Two bits of good news! First, the nice man from the gas company's repair service showed up bright and early Monday morning.  He looked at our furnace (an admittedly elderly piece of machinery), took a panel off, wiggled a few wires, pushed a button, and boom...heat.  I felt rather like an ass for not knowing to do this myself.  But I was a warm ass, so I didn't care for long.  And I had remembered that we had the furnace repair program and called them instead of calling the regular repair company (who charge $80 to ring the doorbell and [...]

Snow!

Apparently I've sunk to the level of using my blog to record the weather.  This is doubtless shameful.  But I've checked, and there are far more shameful things on the internet, so I'm letting it slide.  Because people...it snowed yesterday.  And I almost missed it.  I...erm...like snow. Especially the first snow of the  year.  It gets less charming some time around February, but for now it's awesome.  This snow came while I was asleep and was almost melted by the time I woke up.  As such, I've made the executive decision that it's not quite the first snow.  It's more [...]

Shows Potential

I know this still doesn't look exactly awe-inspiring.  But I assure you it should be cool when it gets a bit more done.  It will be all swooshes and diagonals and angles.  If things go according to plan (always a big if) it should be reversible.  And it might just give me an excuse to indulge my burgeoning button obsession.  Of course that won't happen if I don't find some time to actually sit down and make more stitches.

Look, Knitting

Just in case you were worried I'd not been knitting, I've got a tiny reminder.  I'm awfully pleased with these.  They're orderly somehow, almost stately.  I'll cast on the second one in a day or two, and might even finish them up this month (an unheard of level of knitting fidelity truth be told).  I have a suspicion they'll look even cooler when I've got a pair of them and they're on real live feet.

Crisp

As promised, actual socks on the needles.  This is the first cast on with some of the Sock Summit yarn.  It's Plucky Knitter's MCN Primo in the color Barely Birch.  This is a nice thick yarn, and the socks are going to be perfect for wearing around the house when it gets cooler.  Assuming it ever does...it's unseasonably warm at the moment. For now we'll just have to pretend the pumpkins make it feel fall-like (please ignore the whirr of the ceiling fan in the background).
