Wired
I am, for some perfectly good reason that nonetheless escapes me, completely enamored with the caps on these. They are just so deeply, deeply satisfying. I used a piece of wire in them, and it makes them Just So Delightfully Bendy. It means you can wiggle and shape the tips of the cap just so, and somehow that changes the whole mood of the thing. I don't know why, I don't make the rules. But somehow...somehow it just really really does. The pattern is Preserves, and you've got through tomorrow to use the code SHORTCAKE for a little something off!
Preserves
Earlier this month, we did a perfectly respectable, unquestionably useful, deeply practical hat. So of course this time we need to do something absurd, just to maintain balance. I'm pretty sure these strawberries qualify! There is absolutely nothing practical about them. They serve no useful purpose. And I'm not really sure I'm qualified to speak to respectability, but anything that red must have something to blush about. But knitting them made me happy, they feel absolutely delightful in my hands, and they seem to amuse everyone who sees them. Which seems like all I can reasonably ask for from a [...]
Strawberryish
Never fear, we are not afflicted with a strange strawberry bleaching plague, there are indeed also red strawberries! It's just...you know...'bright, true, strawberryish red' is about the least represented color in my entire stash, whereas 'chalky, dusty, pencil eraserish pink' is much easier to come by. But I wasn't going to go through a strawberry phase without sneaking in at least a couple of red ones!
Assembly line
It's a strawberry assembly line over here, and I suspect it maybe the same at your house in the not too distant future, so let's run down what you need to make these! I must, for the sake of my faith in humanity, assume that you can all tell that you'll want yarn and needles that let you knit in the round (plus the usual stuff you want for any knitting project like a darning needle to weave in your ends and scissors to cut your yarn and a stitch marker to keep track of the start of your round [...]
Things occur
I regret to inform you that all good sense has fled. All that is left is a fondness for absurdities and a susceptibility to cute things. And when you mix that with a whole bunch of yarn scraps and a scandalous lack of self restraint...well...things are bound to occur.
Scarlet
I am saying it so none of you beat me to it. Yes, it does look sort of like a tongue. And yes, I read enough classic kids' books to immediately start making scarlet fever jokes. I'm classy like that.
Good decisions
Yup. This is fine. Totally fine. There is absolutely no cause for alarm. You and I are both reasonable, sensible adults who make good decisions and use our time well.
Raise that
I was quite frank about the possibility of incipient absurdities. I believe I can now raise that from a possibility to a certainty. If I didn't have to look up the difference between a weather watch vs warning Every Single Time, I'd make some sort of amusing comment based on that. However, I am simply incapable of retaining that information (no matter how many mnemonics folks suggest). And I assume I am not the only one (as far as I can tell, no one is EVER the only one who has trouble with whatever that thing they feel weird about [...]
Shenanigans
There...there might be shenanigans underway. This could quickly rise to the level of hi-jinks. All manner of absurdities are possible.
