Wanna help?
Everything feeling kinda overwhelming? Wanna stop doom scrolling & do something concrete? Any chance you've got a few cozy knits looking for a good home? If so, I have an idea! Some lovely folks are collecting warm winter things to give to newly arrived asylum seekers and migrants. This is mostly an in person thing, but I reached out and asked if there was any chance they'd be willing to let some knitters maybe send a few things through the mail, and they were kind enough to say yes! I'm putting together a little box of my own (somehow I [...]
Rather nifty
It occurs to me that I have not properly shown you the inside of these. And that's a shame, for the inside is...rather nifty. It's also quite different on the contrast color version (that's the teal/gold one) than on the solid color version (that's the blue/purple one). And look, I knew the inside of the solid color one was pretty, so I expected the inside of the contrast color one to look cool too. But I did not expect THAT. And no, no I don't like the inside better than the front. But I do like it a whole [...]
Constellate Hat & Mitts
I told you I wasn't ready to be done with these! And, given my firm conviction that accessories are more fun in sets, it should surprise absolutely no one that there are now mitts to match the hat. Though even I admit to being surprised by just how very much I adore them (it's the thumb increases, they're just so pretty I can hardly stand it). And of course I had to do them with both a solid color option and a contrast color option. Because once you see how nifty the contrast color option is, I don't see how [...]
Deepest darkest
Last week, as I was looking for my bucket of eyes, I came across a hat. A completely finished hat (the hat's actually off the needles, this was just a picture from way way way back on my camera's memory card of it still on the needles). A completely finished hat that I'd left to molder in the deepest, darkest recesses of the bookshelf bins for goodness only knows how long. Now, this hat will likely never see the light of day. The brioche pulls the fabric a bit too much, so it doesn't fit terribly well or feel very [...]
Setting Expectations
Look, this is just going to look very very very boring for quite some time. Then I'm going to do A THING. And then it will be not boring. I'm just setting expectations here. So bear with me, because this will be cool as hell when it's done. Promise!
Never content
This is an absolutely blatant reminder that the mitts to match the Constellate hat are due out very soon (the plan is Tuesday, assuming the world doesn't do anything dastardly to me or mine between now and then). The hat's out now, but we all know I am never content with just a hat when I could have mitts to match! The yarn is one of Seven Sisters Arts' gradient color wheels and is, clearly, absolutely magical. Karen dyed up some extra of the teal/gold color here, so you might be able to snag one if you're so inclined!
Unabated
The fascination will, surely, at some point break. All previous fascinations have. This one will too. But for now? For now it continues unabated. The yarn is by Little Skein Anne (two different weights of her silk and linen magic). And I suspect there will end up being a pattern of some sort, at some point (though likely not till January, perhaps we can use them as part of a 'be nicer to yourself' resolution, which is about the only sort of new year's resolution I'm interested in at this point).
Social conditioning
The gentleman who pulled over to ask what I was taking pictures of was VERY confused when I held this up on my palm, smiled real big, and exclaimed 'TENTACLES!' with a maniacal gleam in my eye. This level of frankness and unvarnished enthusiasm is part of my ongoing project to: a) answer exactly the question that was asked b) do the stuff I like doing as long as it's not hurting anyone else c) not apologize for things that don't need to be apologized for d) not over explain things to strangers Now I'll be honest, this is often [...]
Small smugnesses
I am, much to my surprise, currently...sewing something. And I find myself with a question for those of you who sew more than me. How do you decide how which bits of leftover fabric to keep and which ones to throw away? Not what size do you keep, because I suspect that's actually pretty variable (I know it is for me and yarn). But like what factors do you take into consideration when you're deciding? And do you trim your fabric down so what's left is closer to being a regular shape? Or do you just leave all those [...]
