Hold tight
Oh...oh you're going to like this. Or at least I'm going to like it, which is usually a pretty good indication that a fair number of you are going to like it. Hold tight, we're almost there!
Almost
It is almost time for the decreases. Which is good, because before I started this one I wound off a tiny bit of that purple yarn and set it aside (and, wonder of wonders, I even know where it is). And in just about another inch here, I get to do something pretty with it. And I Can Not Wait.
Frivolous Things
One of these days, when I am fabulously wealthy (snort) and can spend my money on absurdly frivolous things (more fervent snort), I will find a way to talk with a paper company and get this exact paper made in colors I like better (snort that is so strong it is basically a coughing fit). I've tried /several/ (no, really, seriously, quite a few) different papers from increasingly distant and complicated places and never found one with a texture I like better (this is where I mention about how this is a subjective opinion, and it's totally totally ok if [...]
Cooler
If I were cooler, I'd have planned this all out well in advance so we these in some sort of rainbow order and super tidy and intentional and spiffy. I am not that cool. Somehow, the world will continue in its orbit, despite this oversight on my part. (Just for anyone playing along at home, I am mean and will not teach you how to make them, but old blog posts about these exist, and some of those have good starting points. Or you can wander around the #transparentstar or #windowstar or #fenstersterne tags on instagram and find other [...]
Because why not seize the tiny joys
Every now and then they remind me of quilt blocks. If you look around at the #transparentstar or #windowstar or #fenstersterne tags on instagram, you'll find lots more examples (including some where folks managed to clean their windows and hang them properly, as opposed to just holding them up with their fingers as the sun goes down).
Chaos
I do not normally embrace this kind of chaos, but wow am I finding this satisfying these days. Just...knit. Don't count. Don't follow a chart. Just knit. When you get to a colorful bit, make a wee little blobby. Then knit some more. It's the closest I've come to turning my brain off in a long time, and I'm kind of loving it...
We’ve done this before
Insert lecture about blocking right about here. See how much more even and regular the orange hat is compared to the purple one? Yeah. That's because I blocked the orange one already. I'm actually going to block it a second time while doing A Sneaky Trick here in a little bit. But even the most basic blocking (get it truly soaked, squeeze out the water, smooth it out flatish, and let it dry) makes a tremendous difference. No pins. No props. Just a bowl of water and five minutes of active time (time spent soaking or drying doesn't really [...]
Yes, again
Did I mention the bit about purple? About purple with tiny bits of pink in there? I strongly suspect this going to be this winter's new hat (you know, after pattern photos...pattern photos always happen before I get to actually wear the thing).
And I’ll soothe my brain any way I can these days
Will there one day again be some actual yarn/knitting/grownup stuff here? Yes. Is today that day? No. Today is the day for finding what light we can, sinking our claws in deep, and holding on for dear life. And if that means we distract ourselves by bringing order to tiny pieces of colorful paper? Well, then that's what we'll do, and no harm done.
