Tiny Nonsense

Further improvements

Ok, so there's the first one done! You can see I ended up doing a second area of duplicate stitch, but it's a little funny looking. That's because, when I handed them back to their owner for a fit check, the heel was declared delightfully cushiony...and now that it was so soft and cozy, it became clear that the ball of the foot was...less so. That's largely because I knit these socks back in my 'what? what do you mean my stitches are twisted? aren't they all supposed to be like this?' phase of being a baby knitter. So [...]

And repeat…

Now we settle in for the actual mending. But first things first, I was not in charge of this color selection. The original yarn is long gone, so I asked the sock's owner if we should go with as close a match as possible, or something super high contrast. The vote went for super high contrast. So I rummaged around in the scraps bin for something of a suitable weight and fiber content (generally you want to get something fairly close to your original yarn, though it's not a hard and fast rule) and settled on this. Yellow and [...]

Venerable

Mending time! But first, before you start mending, a little bit of prep work is in order. Actually, we need to take an even bigger step back. This is probably the very oldest knitting I've ever shown around these parts. These socks are from 2008. You know, back when we were all young and well rested, did not have a failed reality tv personality encouraging a coup, did not have anxiety dreams about leaving of the house without a face mask, and had no idea what instagram was because it hadn't been invented yet. They've been in spouse's sock drawer [...]

Quiescent

I told you I wouldn't keep you waiting for long! Quiescent is back, you can find it on either ravelry or payhip, and you can use the code CINDERELLA to take 10% off for the first few days it's out. Did you ever knit a thing that is just an absolute perfect expression of some aspect of your personality? Something that's just so unspeakably you that you can hardly stand it?  Yeah, that's these slippers for me.  The yarn (gray...gray and speckles...gray and speckles and fuzzy)? The texture (twisted rib is my happy place)? The unabashed swoopy lines?  The satisfyingly [...]

Strappy

These are cute on their own.  But the strap? The strap makes them ridiculous. See? I told you the strap took it from completely reasonable and acceptable levels of cuteness to frankly absurd borderline illegal levels of cuteness. Every time. The updated pattern for these will be out here very shortly. Don't fret, if you had the original version, you'll get the update automatically when the new one comes out (it hasn't come out yet, so seriously, don't panic that you don't have it now, you're not supposed to have it now, please oh please don't email me screaming [...]

Make two

You'll forgive me if I mostly take a shortcut and say 'hey, look, second slipper...pretty much the same as the first slipper' and mostly leave the details to your imagination. I trust you can handle it!

Flat

Does it look too weird flat? Sometimes this stuff looks weird flat and makes more sense on something foot shaped. Let's borrow a pretend foot for a minute and see if that helps give the idea. Someone always always always asks, so the thing the knitting is on is called a last. It's the thing they use to make shoes on. If you want them, go somewhere like ebay or etsy and search for "shoe last." Throw the word vintage in there if you want old ones (probably wood) instead of new ones (probably plastic). If you get them in [...]

It’s been a while

If you've been around for a long long long long time you might recognize these. But we're talking years and years and years. They're my very first slipper pattern. They went away at the beginning of the year (when I took everything down for the massive reformatting project that I thought would be the main task of 2020, you know, before we all switched our attention to 'survive a pandemic' and 'see if our democracy completely collapses or limps along for a bit longer'), and they've been one of the most requested patterns while they've been away. I wanted to [...]

Don’t worry!

Were you worried? Were you worried there was no new knitting? Because you didn't need to be worried about that...there was totally knitting happening. Just sometimes I take a little break from showing it to you so I can rest and recharge and get caught up (and possibly even get a bit ahead). Really though, that's not a bad thing...I'm pretty good at taking pictures along the way to share with you when I come back! Yarns are Greenwich Worsted by June Pryce Fiber Arts in the color Stormy Days (that's the gray one) and Marsh Mohair by Lichen and [...]
