Tiny Nonsense

Blow out

I have a cheap cotton sweater from some fast fashion place (maybe Old Navy, maybe Target, I'm not 100% sure, it's at least six or seven years old).  It started life as an actual wear-out-in-public sweater. Then after a year or so, it transitioned to a pajama sweater (I know, some people loathe cotton sweaters, and they're not what you want to wear if your goal is to keep warm, but they're my favorite thing to wear as pajamas, and I am the boss of my pajamas, so I get to wear them if I want).⁣ And now...well now I've worn [...]

They grew

Turns out, if you keep making stitches at even a slightly faster rate than you rip them out, your project will eventually grow.  Even if you're tired.  Even if it's been raining for two weeks straight.  Even if you have a crew full of marvelous folks doing necessary but noisy (oh so noisy) repair work at your house. And if your knitting grows for long enough, you get to make a thumb. And if your brain works the way mine does, two things happen.  First, you absolutely adore the thumb.  Second, you think it looks just the tiniest bit like [...]

And while we’re at it

And now, to the surprise of absolutely no one at all, let's have some mitts to go with the hat. Because I mean there's all that left over yarn in the skein...it would be a crying shame not to use it, right?  Right. I did a bit of magic with the scale to make sure I'll have plenty for working both, and it looks like it's all going to work out perfectly.

Show off

I have this little voice in the back of my head that says I should attempt to maintain some sort of semblance of self effacing modesty.  That I should not let on about how tickled pink I am about this whole thing. But you know what?  That little voice is absolutely drowned out by the ever so much louder voice saying "Holy crap look what I made.  Isn't it fabulous? Don't you just love it to bits?!?" And today?  Well today the louder voice is winning. Because this really is rather delightful. It's off with testers now (some day we're [...]

Dollop

Dollop is out, it's 10% off with the code CUPCAKE, and I'm so ridiculously smitten I just don't even know what to say. I realize that maybe this shouldn't be this entertaining.  Maybe I should be doing something more suitable with my time in this world.  But I have yet to show one of these to someone and have them not make the oh-my-god-that's-adorable face.  And you know what?  Bringing that level of delight to someone's day is kind of awesome. And, I mean you can sort of make an argument for them having some practical purpose.  Sort of.  If [...]

Feeling stabby?

So, there's no way to make the argument for these being terribly practical little beasts.  Because they're knit cupcakes, and practical isn't really what you're going for if you're making a knit cupcake.  But then again... I mean maybe you need a pin cushion?  I suppose you could maaaaaaaaybe make the case for a pin cushion being practical? Especially if it has space inside to store more pins?  Though again...practical is totally not a requirement for anything this damn cute, and I will fight you if you try to convince me otherwise! The pattern comes out Tuesday (and, as always, mailing [...]

Advance planning

So, the cupcakes are just about ready to come out (if all goes according to plan, they'll be out on April 16, because I'm pretty sure the day after tax day we could all use a cupcake).  But, on the off chance you're planning to cast some on the moment they come out, I want to send you on a scavenger hunt before the pattern drops.  You see, you'll need one, ah, shall we say 'non-traditional' bit of kit to make these.  You need a little plastic cup to go inside the cupcake bit and give it that perfect shape. [...]

Pretty much like that

So after that 'let's go straight for a nice long time...no...longer than you think' part, then comes the 'aaaaaaand three rows and you're done' bit. At least that's how my hats tend to work.  I'm a tremendous fan of a quick decrease on hats.  It actually means you're knitting a bit more fabric (because you have to make the straight part a bit taller before you start the decreases), but I feel like it fits better and it doesn't give me hat hair. Plus it lets you do all sorts of delightfully dramatic stuff on the top.  This one is [...]

Remiss

Yeah, so somehow I've been distracted and not shown you as much of this as I should have. Which is a shame, as it's lovely. But it does pretty much do that thing all hats do in the middle where you can just sort of assume 'and then it got taller for a while with no particularly notable changes.'  Because well...that's how hats work. At least with this one you can distract yourself by wondering if the color is changing yet (hint, yes, yes it totally is). Yarns are Malabrigo Rios in Natural and Friea Handpaint Sport in Flare.  If [...]
