That’s officially a pair of socks
So the sock grew. And grew. And pretty soon it was a real live fully grown sock! They're officially done (the toe has been grafted and the ends woven in and the socks blocked since this picture was taken), the pattern is officially done, all we need now is proper pattern photos. However, that's trickier than it usually is right now because of both the leg and the weather. Taking sock photos requires more gymnastics than you might imagine, both on the part of the model and the photographer. And while I might (just might...with the help of a nice [...]
Let’s call it a character building experience…
You know how sometimes you have a new experience and you all of a sudden you learn a whole bunch of things that maybe should have been obvious already but you never quite thought of? Like how it takes a lot of space to move around on a knee scooter? And how people who leave pee on the toilet seats in accessible bathrooms are assholes? And how an awful lot of the things in your house are out of reach from a seated position? Right, so the broken leg has made sure I know all of that. And it's also [...]
So have I mentioned that trying things on is good?
The hat has continued to grow (as have the snow drifts...it's blustery out there). And we're at that point where the brim simply must be finished if I'm to retain my sanity. Which means that we're at a really good point to discuss something sneaky about hat brims (and knitted fabric in general). So, see how this is just a hair shy of 6 inches (yes, coolest ruler in the land, yes, it belongs in your knitting basket, and yes amazon links are, as always, affiliate links)? So you'd think that would fold in half and give you a 3 [...]
Could be a clue
So the cardigan? Yeah, here's some proof I'm not overly precious about it. It was tossed on the foot of the bed and the kittens decided it was a fine place for a nap (can't say I blame them). This could be why it gets holes...
Proof of Concept…
So I mean yes, it does seem to be technically possible for me to knit with circular needles... But I'm still finding it deeply, deeply awkward. But I still fail to have suitable long DPNs in this size, and I still do not want to knit a hat on short DPNs (I've done it, it's pain). So I'm still pretending this will work. Tell me it eventually feels less like wrestling with an angry squid? And in case it doesn't, lots of lovely folks recommended the needles from Indian Lake Artisans when I posted about this on instagram. They apparently [...]
Ice Ice Baby
So, in a fit of truly balletic grace, I managed to slip and fall on the ice in my driveway not too long ago. It was, I'm sure, a sight to behold. After a day or two of trying to convince myself it was just a twisted ankle and would feel better any minute, I gave in and went to the doctor. And yeah, it's just a little bit broken. I'm ok, but, for the next few weeks, I'm going to be taking it easy. Very easy. Lots of long naps and netflix marathons and more naps and possibly a [...]
Well fine, be that way
Alright...so apparently I should have just tried out the original yarn before deciding it was too thin. And it is thin...I'm going to have to cast on at least 6 and if I have any common sense at all (probably not) actually 12 more stitches than I want to. But really, that's not that much of a hardship when the yarn is this pretty!
More swatches
Remember when I said I swatched a lot...I really do mean it. I showed you the first swatch the other day, the one where the yarn was a tiny bit too fuzzy for the sort of stitch definition I wanted. Next up was this lovely yarn from Green Mountain Spinnery. It's hard to tell from the picture, but it's a good bit firmer in person than the Infinity Shawl was. Alas when I swatched, the fabric I was getting wasn't what I wanted either. It's a bit pricklier than what I can comfortably wear as a hat (my forehead is [...]
Countdown, day 24
Today's pattern is...actually a book, Curls 2. You can get it on ravelry for 25% off with the code COUNTDOWN. People ask all the time if the patterns from this are available individually, and I confess they are not. I don't like splitting up books (they're so much more fun as a whole package, and Curls books are full of all sorts of informational material at the beginning that you don't want to miss). But this is a chance to get all the patterns in the book for less than the cost of 3 individual patterns, so it's a heck [...]
