Saturday Evening Post
I had two things I was supposed to do this weekend. Usually those things happen on Sunday evening. This weekend, I was feeling unusually noble and productive, so I did them on Saturday morning. Most of this week has been spent with my ears attuned to the tromp of the postman's step on the porch. I've been (none too patiently) waiting for the photos for the book. Just as I sat down to work on Saturday, I heard the postman come. I decided it was a reward for my virtue and dashed to the door. Bills -- no pics. I [...]
There’s a Plan
I'm a firm believer in the importance of plans. The current stage of Book the Second's plan involves double checking everything on paper. The way I do this is to *print it all out, read it, and make notes (the kind in ink on paper) of problems, go back to the computer, make the changes. Repeat from *. Once this gets to the point where I can't find any more errors, I put it aside for a day or two. Then I read it over once more. Usually something else makes itself apparent. But eventually...eventually you get to a new [...]
Getting Organized
Some time this weekend (when depends entirely on when I wake up), I'm going to go through and change the prices on some of my patterns. The goal here is to make the prices consistent across types of patterns. When I'm done, all sock patterns will be the same price, and all the other sorts of patterns and pattern sets will be more consistently priced. It means the prices of some patterns will be going up (not a lot...most of the changes will be less than a dollar). But I wanted to give everyone a heads up so no one [...]
What to do with that Scarf
This will probably make its way around the knitting intarwebs, but on the off chance you haven't seen it yet, you totally owe it to yourself to go check out the 25 ways to wear a scarf video. Not all of them will work with knitted scarves, but a bunch of them totally would. Super nifty all around. And the behind the scenes link makes it all the more impressive. Edited to add: I have it on very good authority that a package containing the images from the photo shoot is on its way to me. If you hear an [...]
Getting Old
I'm apparently reaching the stage of crotchety-old-man-hood characterized by the liberal use of the phrase 'when I was a kid...' I'm actually fairly comfortable with this, but I do find it amusing. Trick or treat was...anti-climactic. We had somewhere around two dozen kids or groups of kids over the course of two hours. I feel like we've had more in previous years and that they were more polite in the past. I get cranky when the kids don't participate in the ritual...I want to see a costume, I want to hear 'trick or treat' (super duper bonus points if they're [...]
Porch Knitting
Is it wrong that I started something last night that will be simple enough to knit on the porch tonight as we hand out candy (and play-doh...really...it's a huge hit)? Is anyone else knitting while they hand out candy? Anybody got a costume planned? I must admit I don't dress up. But I DO sit on the porch and drink warm things and eat candy while judging the local costumes.
Denied
The kitten overlords have decreed that I may not use my desk chair. It has been commandeered for their nefarious purposes. They suggest checking back later to see if they're done with it, but they make no promises. Update: Shortly after posting this, the rat fink bastards devious little brats kittens upped the ante in their quest to keep me from being productive. They swarmed me, all three at once, on the tile floor. It was a choice between dropping what I had in my hands and grabbing the sink or going ass over teakettle and landing in the middle [...]
Administrative Drivel
There is absolutely no knitting to be seen. None at all. There will be some day, but not today. Instead, I come to you with two shamelessly commercial administrative announcements (which always make me feel ever so slightly sullied, so please do pardon the business side of things). First, folks have been asking for me to make the patterns from Silk Road Socks available as individual downloads. I've gotten the necessary files from the publisher to do so, and you should be able to get any of them as single patterns now. Second, we're just about out of print copies [...]
Creepy Crawlies
The hat is going to have a wee flipped up bit at the brim. I had initially planned to hold this in place with a button. But the more I play with it, the more I want the hat to be reversible. That means a button won't really work so well. A pin or a brooch would work much better. Now of course I'm happy to try and track down something cool (oh etsy, your siren song draws me in every time), but I'm also a fan of the use what you have approach. Alas, I'm not really a brooch [...]
