Tiny Nonsense

Book Yarn, Part I

Alrighty.  A few folks have asked if I'm going to tell you which yarns I'm using in Book the Second.  I wasn't all that sure that folks liked that last time, but since you asked so nicely, I can totally be persuaded.  Even more on target, the book and the rest of my life are oh-so-rudely cutting into my knitting time (and thus limiting my blog fodder), and this gives me something to say.  So, without further ado, and with the help of our noble friend Percival, let's get to the yarn. On the left is Blue Moon Fiber Arts [...]

Winner

As promised, the winner for the Barking Dog Yarns/Foliate giveaway is Sue of Alderwood Quilts.  It looks like Sue already knows all about Barking Dog Yarns and will be adding a skein of Galaxy in the color California to her stash.  I'll be in touch to sort everything out. And because I feel bad that not everyone can win, I set up a little promo for everyone else.  If you buy Foliate, you can have any of my other patterns for free.  Just put both Foliate and any other pattern in your ravelry cart, click on the use a coupon [...]

The Master Plan

This book thing only works if you're organized.  Well, it only works for me if I'm organized.  You may be as disorganized as you like. This box is Book the Second.  You might think books live on the computer.  And large parts of this one certainly do.  But, by its very nature, a book like this has a certain physical component.  This box keeps that physical component safe and tidy. A surprising number of you have asked about how the book is being managed, so I thought I'd share a bit. This is a giant plastic file box from some [...]

Yarn Giveaway

Because Suzan, evil genius behind Barking Dog Yarns, is awesome, I have a skein of Galaxy to give away. Actually, it's even better than that.  Instead of having an actual physical skein of yarn in my hands to send away (always a bit of a wrench I tell you), I have permission to send you over to the site, tell you to find your very favorite color (in any of the bases), and Suzan will dye it up in Galaxy for you. I am, frankly, jealous.  Someone is in for a treat. I can't say enough good things about this [...]

Snag

So we all do it.  Or at least I hope we all do it.  This morning I realized that I'd worked part of one row of the sock much much looser than the others.  Now for some things this might not matter or might come out in the wash.  But this is a sock, and I didn't want to leave a place that could wear our or irritate the foot. But of course it was many many rounds back, and I didn't want to rip. So if you ever find yourself in this unenviable potion (you of course won't because [...]

Brazen Hussy

I've completely abandoned all pretense of fidelity and become an absolutely brazen hussy.  I have a new beau.  Don't worry, The Boy knows all about it.  My new suitor is a teeny tiny porch kitten.  See? This little guy and I are totally courting.  He's come to the porch from time to time this Spring (he naps on one of the chairs), but now he seems to have made a bit more of a commitment.  Starting this past Friday, he's been on the porch every morning when we opened the door.  He'll sit and make googly eyes at our cats [...]

Foliate

I, in a more or less unprecedented move, decided to spend a weekend away from the computer.  Somehow I convinced myself that Friday counted as the weekend too.  Now to be fair, it was odd.  It made me feel kind of...itchy.  But, it did prove a theory I've been wondering about.  It turns out that the whole wide world doesn't end if I don't check my email/check ravelry/update this site for several consecutive days.  I'm not sure I want to risk it again though...there could be some sort of cumulative effect. And now, to make it up to you, I'll [...]

Unheard Of

I just did one thing I've never done, and another thing I haven't done in years.  I just cast on for a project with beads...a project from someone else's pattern.  I know, I'm stunned too.  But...I'm also loving it.  Details and pictures to follow shortly.  I'm sure I'll come to my senses soon!

Plicate

After much ado, I'm pleased to present Plicate. We had a little photo shoot yesterday, and Lauren deserves great acclaim for willingly donning wooly things on the first really scorching day of the year.  I haven't the slightest idea how she managed.  I was totally un-wool-covered, and I almost keeled over from the heat. On the off chance it's not too hot to even think of touching wool where you are (or, if you've given in and cranked up the a/c to the point where you're actually just a bit chilly), you can now make one of your own.  It's [...]
