Rhymes with Yarn

So I have a confession.  I've been playing a game of chicken with the laundry.  I somehow decided it would be much more efficient to wait to wash knitted socks until I had a whole load full.  Have you looked at a sock lately? Even for the big footed among us, they're pretty small.  It takes a lot of socks to fill one washing machine up.  Still, I've knit a lot of socks, so I'm getting close to that point.  But, in working my way down to the bottom of the basket of socks in the closet, I've come across [...]

According to Plan

This is going awfully well.  Awfully well indeed.  I have a sneaking suspicion this yarn (Chubbie, by Vice) is going to become one of my favorite fat sock yarns.  This is especially good news, since the sad closing of Schaefer Yarns has meant that my beloved Nichole is going to become harder and harder to find.  The discovery of Chubbie will totally help console me. I'm unreasonably taken with the heel flap on this one, it was rather a lot of fun to knit (I do need to figure out just how to reverse one part of it for the [...]

Envy

About a zillion years ago, I got to know Lizzy on Ravelry.  She tested some of my earliest patterns, then she knit some samples for KCC1, and now she's gone and done that thing that so many of us yarn types have a secret hankering to do somewhere deep inside.  She's started a yarn company.  And of course, it's fabulous yarn.  And of course, I sweet talked her into letting me play with it for KCC2. Just recently, she and I were talking about another little project I have kicking around in my head.  A few days later, yarn showed [...]

Next

In between the website upgrades, the movies, and the ice cream making, the weekend saw a bit of time for some actual knitting.  These are the newest sock on the needles and they will be for The Boy (he certainly deserves them after all the computer time he clocked over the last few days). The yarn is String Theory Merino DK in the color Carina.  The Boy picked it out when we visited String Theory in October.  The color is lovely, and just the tiniest bit odd.  It looks like the yarn itself is yellow and in some spots it's [...]

Look, Stitches

Because it's been an alarmingly long time since I showed you new knitting, I thought I'd just pop in here and throw up a pic of some upcoming socks.  These have been finished for an age (so I suppose they're only sort of new knitting), but I hadn't had time to write the pattern or get a photo.  So I popped them in the suitcase and took them with us to Maine. I'm sort of loving them, even if I do look frightfully pale.  As soon as I have a few consecutive free hours, I'll get the pattern written and [...]

Prep Work

We are now less than one week out from the photo shoot for KCC2.  This means I have allowed my inner organizational nutcase free rein.  If I feel like pinning tags with lists of photos needed to each item, then I do.  If I feel the need to make a list (using 3 different colors of pen and highlighter) of what to bring to each day of the photo shoot, well then I'll do that too.  It's either that or gnaw my fingernails clean off, and the office supply approach brings about less bloodshed. But, in the middle of all [...]

Blue

I'm working on some socks.  This, this is not news.  Alas, the plans for these socks are a wee bit in the air at the moment.  The details of their fate need to be secured before I can tell you too much about them.  It's making me twitchy.  I've actually got knitting on the needles, and I want to show it to you, but discretion demands I not...for the moment. And yet, somehow, I'm still talking about the socks.  I'm working with Dream in Color's Everlasting DK (aka the best fat sock yarn in all the land...it's what I used [...]

Unheard Of I Tell You

As predicted, 45 minutes of knitting brought about the end of the second sock.  That's two whole socks...all the way down to the toes.  I wouldn't make such a big deal of this, but these are the, um, second pair of socks I've managed to finish this year.  Now that doesn't mean I haven't had socks on the mind (I've spent lots of quality time thinking about all the socks for KCC2), just that I haven't had many socks on the needles.  I rather miss them.  Especially when they come out like these! But, it seems my very next project [...]

Nearly Unheard Of

Shocking though it doubtless will be, I've actually done some knitting.  Yeah, real live actual knitting.  Not swatches, not double checking a fiddly bit for some giant upcoming project (I'm looking at you, next book...I'm looking at you with an evil squinty glare), not aimless yarn petting.  Knitting.  The sort where you start a project and then put in sustained time and effort and are slowly rewarded with demonstrable progress.  I'm thinking I like that series of events. It's the mate to the lonely sock I showed you the other day (cough, week, cough).  It's actually a bit taller than [...]
