Monthly Reminder
Every month I write a post saying “abortions are good!” and send a donation to @AidAccess to support their work providing abortion pills to people who need them. This month I also want to encourage you to start following a couple of accounts that talk about abortion, because the more informed you are, the better care you can take of both yourself and the people in your life. These are some of my favorite resources: If you need abortion pills or help finding an abortion provider: Aid Access (@aidaccess), Plan C Pills (@plancpills), I Need An A (@ineedanacom), [...]
Reproduce
Oh...oh dear...I think they might be learning to work together. I fear they might be learning to knit. Which, ok fine. I suppose every organism finds a way to reproduce itself. If you want to do your part to increase the population of tentacles, the pattern is out and it's called Gripping (and if you want someone to put together all the various bits and pieces for them all in one tidy little package, Little Skein Anne has absolutely marvelous kits that do just that). But I do have some qualms about the knitting learning to knit. Because really, if [...]
Gripping
Our Tentacled Overlords have made landfall. Please remain calm. Local authorities are aware of the situation and will update you as soon as more information is available. In the meantime, should you wish to knit a small tentacle of your own, either as a welcoming gesture to our new Overlords or as a ward against the grasping horror of the deep, I've got you covered. Gripping is out on both ravelry and payhip, and the code TENTACLE will take 15% off in either place through Friday (and of course, Rampant Nonsense patrons get the pattern for free as part of [...]
Polite Society
The wee swirly bit of business from a few days ago? Yeah, it was lovely to see everyone speculating on it, but now I fear I may disappoint you when you learn what it really is. I am knitting myself a pile of absolutely magnificent washcloths. And I'll be honest, my first inclination was to say absolutely nothing about the project. It somehow feels too...personal? private? intimate? to discuss online. I'm not quite sure actually, but it feels like the sort of thing that a respectable person should keep behind closed doors and not even hint at in polite society. [...]
Better or worse?
Is tentacles in pointy hats better or worse than tentacles with potions? I mean like from a safety and security angle. To be frank, they both seem to pose certain risks. Though I have to admire the dedication to hat wearing in creatures that don't, strictly speaking, have heads. It's impressive! The tentacle pattern should be out early next week, so this seems like a good time to remind folks about my Community Supported Pattern program. I know not everyone has room in their budget for little indulgences right now, so I always make a handful of copies available for [...]
Slightly more sedate
Oh oh oh! I fiiiiinally found a cork fabric that makes a version of the needle books I like! I know not everyone is quite as enamored of the sparkle pony glitter plastic as I am (though really, I also know damn well I'm not the only one who loves it). But all of the other things I'd found had been disappointing in some way, and all the other cork fabric I'd found tended to flake and crack when you folded it. But I was at my local fabric shop with a friend, and she spotted this, and it just...behaves [...]
Crowning Glory
You know I can't resist a good crown! The first picture is the new Constellate variation (see how the fancy stitches are offset and on stockinette). The second picture is the original Constellate in a contrast color (see how they fancy stitches are all lined up on ribbing and looking shockingly sea urchin-esque). And the last one is the original Constellate in a single color (same as the second one, just a wee bit more subdued). I find them all hopelessly charming. Though to be fair, I tend to find almost every hat crown hopelessly charming. It's a known problem [...]
Appropriate precautions
Oh...oh no...the tentacles have gotten into the potions. There's no telling where this will lead. You may wish to take appropriate precautions. I'm not strictly sure what such precautions would be mind you. But I feel a certain level of concern is warranted. Our squirmy friends should make landfall next week. You know what to do if you want to hear when they arrive, and @littleskeinanne is working on something special, should you wish to welcome them into your home but not feel quite up to the task of sourcing the materials yourself. In the meantime, I think perhaps I'll [...]
Variations
Ok, let's walk through the differences on these (video version over on insta if you want to see me flop things about)! On the original Constellate, our little bit of fancy business is all stacked up nice and neat in columns and set against a ribbed background. And on the variation, that same little bit of fancy business is instead offset and set against a stockinette background. The ribbed background on the original lends itself to a folded brim, and the stockinette background to a rolled brim. You can work either one with either one color straight through or with [...]
