Tiny Nonsense

Convincing argument

Me, to myself: You know, if you knit some mitts, that means you'll get to come up with a pretty thumb gusset for them. You know you like playing with pretty thumb gussets. They're almost as much fun as fancy hat crowns, and it's easier to see your hands than the top of your own head. Me, again to myself, because I mean really who else would I be having this conversation with: You make a very convincing argument. Hand me my needles. P.S. That's one of  Seven Sister Arts' Color Wheels in the background there. There's some nifty stunt [...]

Solvable

It always seemed like a shame that Constellate didn't have some mitts to go with it. Luckily, this is an eminently solvable problem. I have a special fondness for solvable problems these days, they make such a nice contrast to the other problems. So let's solve this one.

Told ya

See, I told you the top was spiffy. Well, technically this isn't the top, because I ripped this out and made a tiny and completely gratuitous tweak that no one but me will likely notice or care about (I decided I wanted the space between the petal looking bits to be a smidge narrower so that they would be a tiny bit closer together and lay just a little bit flatter). But the overall vibe is very much the same and I'm rather taken with it. It's hanging out on my headform drying right now, but you'll likely be seeing [...]

Weighty

Today in 'things I didn't know existed and then instantly bought when I found out about them' are curtain weights. Well, let me be more specific. I knew about the long tubes of curtain weights (the ones that look like teeny tiny strings of sausages), but not about these button looking ones. They're about an inch and a half long, weigh about as much as three quarters, and have two nice big holes you can use to sew them on to things. In my case, I'm sewing them on the bottoms of a couple of skirts that tend to go [...]

Incoming spiffyness

Oh. Oh my. Oh my yes. Now, this isn't blocked yet, and it will absolutely flatten out a good bit once it is. But I'm kind of loving this. I'm trying to decide if I want to make one little tweak to the decreases, and I really should decide before I block it (because ripping the floof out after it's blocked is...not ideal). But wait till you see the top, it's damn spiffy!

Respectable

So, what is the proper number of tentacles for a respectable person to knit? Because I heard a rumor Little Skein Anne might be making kits for these (just in case you don't want to track down some of the fiddlier bits yourself), and I find myself suddenly inclined to knit a few extra. And I'd like someone to reassure me that's perfectly understandable. I mean we wouldn't want them to get lonely, right? I suspect they'd get up to trouble if they got lonely. Though they might get up to trouble if there too many of them too. [...]

Super smushy

Oh, oh this fabric is doing a THING. A nifty, textured, wavy, in and out, super smushy THING. Now, there's always a little bit of a risk with a fabric like this that won't lay down totally flat, even after blocking. Some people are really really really bugged by it. And I fully agree that there are places where it's not the best choice! But every now and then, it turns out to be basically perfect. And on something like a hat (especially one like this with a nice flat band at the bottom to keep everything solidly in place), [...]

And now for some options

And I'm delighted with the version I settled on and think it's really solid and useful and all the details are thoroughly worked out! However (you knew there was going to be a however, didn't you?)... However while I was making that stack of them, all I could think of was 'oooooooh, wouldn't it be cool if insert variation here.' So I think I shall indulge that tendency and spend the next few days making a few modified versions! So far my plans include: pages, knit pages, my god how cute will that be stitch marker storage magnets, there [...]

Binding

Pssst, go check your inbox! The pattern for this just went out to Utter Nonsense and Rampant Nonsense patrons. I am smitten with these. Smitten I tell you. They should not be this amusing. There is no reason for them to be this amusing. But here we are. I feel absolutely compelled to make one for each project bag and keep one by each knitting chair and thus never again find myself without a darning needle/ruler/cable needle/tiny crochet hook/pen/notepaper/pair of scissors when I need one. I mean not that this will actually keep my tools from wandering off on adventures [...]
