Tiny Nonsense

Involved

With all the Squishy Feelings Nonsense yesterday, I didn't actually talk much about the knitting. Let's fix that! This is a swatch to work out out some sizing for the first of the socks I'm revisiting. Like I said yesterday, a lot of the earliest patterns only came in one or two sizes, and That's Not How We Do Things Now. And while sometimes adding more sizes is just a matter of adding an extra stitch repeat, sometimes you have to do something a little more involved. Here, each and every size requires five different charts. One for the cuff [...]

Old Flame

Remember how I said I was having a fling with an old flame (aka socks, my first knitting love)? Well, it's official, I'm still fond of socks (even if my shoulder doesn't allow for a long term relationship). And next month will mark fifteen YEARS since my first pattern came out. So I decided to spend a little time with some of those very earliest patterns. And oh...oh I can see the enthusiasm of a new fascination stamped all over them! I really did just knit whatever amused me and then figure out how to write it down after the [...]

Bullseye

What do you think, did I hit the goal (not invisible, but fairly subtle)? I'm pretty happy with it! The first pic is the mend after the sweater was washed and let to dry, the second pic is before I washed it. Just like with most any other knitting project, mended fabric looks better after you've gotten it wet, smoothed it out, and let it dry. It's basically blocking your mend. And, just like any other project, blocking it lets the stitches relax and even out and settle into their final spots. This probably took about three hours of stitching [...]

Secret Socks Questions

Got a secret sock question? Ask me...I might just know the answer! I'm soliciting sock questions for this month's Questionable Nonsense post. If you've got one, head over here and send it along. Socks were my first knitting obsession. They were the first project I managed to finished without getting distracted half way through and the first thing I designed. For a long time, they were the *only* thing I designed. Over time, I had to stop knitting them (working at such a tight gauge did not agree with my elbow or shoulder), but they're still close to my heart. [...]

Of Use

I love the concept of objects of use, by which I mean the things I use to care for myself as I move through my day. Things like the pot I make my oatmeal in or the bowl I eat it out of or the teapot I brew my tea in or the mug I drink it out of or the blankets that keep me warm at night. I like my life more when I pay close attention to them. My life gets better when I focus on having fewer things and making sure the ones I do have are [...]

Handful

If you're in the mood to spread a little love, today seems like a fine day to do it. Instructions for the wee tiny sprinkles right over here (it's a public post, anyone can grab them). Because sometimes you just need a little handful of hearts to handout as the day goes along. I don't make the rules. But I do make rather a lot of tiny nonsense.

More treats

Couple more treats from Fridays' unexpected detour into the delightful Fiber & Vine (first two pics) and Saturday's detour into a totally different yarn store (third pic). It was that sort of weekend. As I said, plans are afoot, and if you're out and about, you might as well have a little adventure while you're out. The first picture is two skeins of Making's Landing, one in white, one in gray. This may be the exact opposite of yesterday's yarn in every possible way, and I love them both dearly. And this...well, this I know exactly what it's going to [...]

Treats

There I was, innocent as a lamb (no), minding my own business (nope), up to no trouble at all (again, no), out on one of those small excursions that happen at the start of daunting undertakings (this bit's true at least), and what do I find but an unexpected yarn store (Fiber & Vine). The delightful kind where you walk in, not having planned to go to a yarn store that day, and walk out with treats. In case that big smushy stuff is Manos del Uruguay's Franca in Marshmallow, and the floofy stuff is Ella Rae's Silky Kid in [...]

So inclined

You can, should you be so inclined, spend the weekend making any of these things. The knitted hearts are Palpitation, the knitted envelope is Dispatch, and the teeny tiny heart sprinkles are nameless but completely delightful (and you can find the instructions for them right over here). You know, just in case you want to spend the day spreading a little love around!
