As advertised
I mean I've always been quite clear about being easily amused. I never suggested I had a particularly sophisticated taste or an especially nuanced perspective on the world. But even I am somewhat concerned by how amusing the tiny knitting robot* and its tiny, perfect icord output are to me. I mean I take comfort from the notion that I am at least in good company, for quite a few of you seem to be as amused as I am. And clearly you are all competent adults who make good choices and run your lives smoothly and without the intervention [...]
Last one’s out!
Yesterday I went by Ontheround (which yes, is in the next town over, between me and the big grocery store, because I live in fairyland...or Maine, same thing) and picked up the last of the yarn for the kits (because we needed more after the first batch because y'all are cool like that). Then I came home, stuffed envelopes, printed labels, and got everything out for the postman this morning. That means all the kits have gone in the mail. Lots of them have already arrived (because I split the shipping on this one up into a couple of batches [...]
No really, like a lot
Hi, have I mentioned I'm autistic as hell? Because oh, oh yeah, oh yeah that's kinda key to understanding who I am and what I do. If you want to hear me natter on about that at length, check out the most recent episode of The Autistic Voice Project podcast where I talk about how my brain works and why being autistic makes me good at my job and why I'd rather be weird enough that you either love me or find me hideously annoying (because my god that's more efficient than trying to be boring enough to be tolerated [...]
Easily amused
I am, once again, amused by my tiny army of robots. This one is by Prym.* It makes a four stitch tube with small needles (I have another one by Addi* that makes a 6 stitch tube with bigger needles), and it runs like a champ. You can watch me spin it over here if you're so inclined. This is part of the ongoing 'fill a tree...or maybe a wreath if a tree is too ambitious' project that's taking up the rest of my year, and you will be seeing more of the results soon! *Affiliate link, because while amazon [...]
How do you like your marshmallows?
I'm spending the rest of the year knitting ornaments from my patterns in my friend Rachel's yarn, and right now I'm knitting marshmallows! If you want to knit them along with me, anyone signed up for my Patreon (at any level, yes even the free one) can get the marshmallow pattern on the newest Patreon newsletter right over here. (Oh and if you want the acorns, they went out on my previous Patreon newsletter, which you can get right over here.) This is totally my (not-so-sneaky) sneaky way of suggesting 'heeeeey, you might wanna sign up for at least the [...]
Remember the shoddy sweaters?
If you've been here for a while, you may remember the saga of the most terribly made sweaters I've ever encountered (from Madewell, and no, the irony of the name does not escape me). Wander back to early 2023 if you want the details, it was a whole thing. Well the green one went in the back of the closet for a nice long time out, and I pulled it out the other day. I've decided it's going to be one of this winter's pajama sweaters. Now, I know enough about how this was made to know that it will [...]
So here’s the plan…
So from now through December, I'm knitting ornaments from my patterns in my friend Rachel's yarn. Because the world is on fire and all I want to do is hibernate and completely ignore capitalism and commerce and the outside world and curl up inside with hot chocolate and yarn and blankets and kittens. But that's hard to do because of the aforementioned capitalism and commerce and things being on fire. And this is about as close as I can get to hibernating and still consider myself sufficiently industrious to deserve rest (and oh, oh if that's not a sentence that [...]
Monthly Reminder
Abortion is an economic issue. Financial issues (or financial issues in conjunction with other issues) are the most common reason people have abortions. Most people who have abortions are already parents and know damn well how expensive it is to care for a child. And a lot of folks realize they can't afford it and so decide not to have more children. And now this administration is taking food and other benefits away from millions of hungry families. This is vile. They want us poor and desperate. And, for some unfathomable reason, pregnant. It's vile, and I hate them forever. But [...]
