Tiny Nonsense

Potions

First there's what, I'm sorry, any respectable person simply must call a potion. There's really no other word. If you were not a little cups and jars and bottles full of flowers and sticks and acorn caps child, that's ok! You can still be a good and lovely person, and we can still be friends. But if you were a flowers and bottles child, then you see clearly that this is a potion. Then there's a bit of a thing with some twine. And some fabric. And maybe some more flowers just to be safe. Then it all goes in [...]

Takeout boxes…

So, this is what I've been up to for the last little while! That's stacks and stacks and stacks (and stacks) of bacon kits. I'm meeting up with Karen from Seven Sisters Arts tomorrow (Saturday, September 27) to pick up yarn at the Cashmere Goat yarn store in Camden Maine (which just so happens to be their five year anniversary party...which you can totally come to...just in case that's the sort of thing you might be in to). Which means boxes should start going in the mail next week! Insert practical information sidebar here to answer the questions someone just [...]

I know what my brain likes…

Ok look, my brain really really really likes radial symmetry. Like a lot. Like a whole lot. Like all the sparkly brain fizzes and sparkles levels of a lot. Which is why I'm quite confident this is going to be spectacular. No really, you know it, I know it, finishing this off is going to be satisfying. But not quite yet.

A little hand holding, part 3

And there we are, done with the knitting and ready to put everything together. Again, the idea here is not that these are proper patterns. Think of them more as what I'd be telling you to do if you sat down beside me and said 'oooooh, cute pencil, I want one' and then I proceeded to spend twenty minutes telling you how to make that happen. Which, honestly, is a danger. I'm notoriously bad at picking up on social cues. But at least here, the only way you're getting the whole excited infodump is if you seek it out. And I'm [...]

A little hand holding, part 1

As I suspected, while I cannot quite manage to get a traditional pattern ready for this one in anything even resembling a timely fashion, I could indeed make a video about it (or rather, three videos about it) wherein we talk materials, knitting, and assembly. If you've ever looked at something I've made, though 'I bet I could do that without a pattern...but I'm just not quite sure where to start...' this is likely what you need to get you going. Videos are up here on patreon now!

Perseverance

I, brave and valiant soul that I am, persevered in the face of innumerable distractions (naps, cats, shiny rocks, pretty flowers, and that glowing rectangle of doom we all carry in our pockets) and actually finished the thing! No really, all the way done, ends woven in and everything. Now to be fair, the thing in question is both small and completely without practical function. But that's true of fully half the things I knit and I don't see any reason to start being bothered about it now. I don't think there's going to be a proper pattern for this [...]

But first, we block

Yes, I am absolutely itching to start the embroidery. No, I will not do it just yet. First, I'm going to block the hat. Now, someone, somewhere is grumbling that they hate blocking and aren't going to do it. And that's fine, you are the boss of your knitting and you get to do or not do whatever you want! However I, being the boss of my knitting, very much do want to block anything I'm going to embroider on before I work on it and then again when the embroidery is done. That's because blocking evens out my stitches, [...]
