Wait for it
Still unblocked, ends still waggling in the wind, still delightful. Now I'll admit, I'm absolutely itching to get this blocked, because the whole thing is just going to relax and straighten up and even out in the nicest way. But I'm making myself wait until the second one is done so that I can show you one freshly off the needles and one freshly blocked in the same picture so you can join in with me as I revel in what a difference a quick bath and a little smoothing and patting can make. Which I'm pretty sure means I [...]
Mix and match
Ok, back to the floof for a second. We did this a little while ago when it was just the mitts and the more eye-searingly pink hat, but it's cool enough I wanted to run it down one more time now that we have a third option in there. All three of these pieces of knitting are made with the same single ply yarn (Seven Sisters Arts' Astrid in the color Zinnia, that's it down front there). And then that single ply yarn is held double with a bit of magnificent floof (HauteKnitYarn Abigail in Saffron Spice for the orange [...]
Indulge me
Indulge me for just a moment and let me show you the inside of these... And look, I'm not going to pretend I don't like the outside better. I absolutely do like the outside better! But that's because the outside is kinda spectacular, even if it is scandalously immodest to say so. But the inside is awfully nifty. Mostly in a 'wait, how does that *work*...like how did you actually *do* that' kind of way. But my brain seems to actually really like chewing on 'how does that work,' and I figure some of you are wired that way too, [...]
Check in
Are we going to quietly sneak over and check in on these in amongst all the floof? Yup. Yup we are. Are we going to find ourselves hopelessly smitten with them? Well I mean I guess I can't speak for you, but I know they're totally doing it for me! And once again, I emphasize that It's Normal For Things To Look A Bit Wonky Before They're Blocked. The magic of blocking is that it evens out the wonky bits! That's especially true here where you're using two different yarns. Well, I mean ok, technically two ends of the same [...]
Pssst
Pssst, today (Friday) is the last day to use the code ZIGZAG for a little discount on Tacit! I'm also working on something nifty for folks who have the mitts and want the matching hat pattern (which should be coming out later this month), so you might wanna grab them now if that's you. Because we all know half the point of being a knitter is having really cute matching winter accessory sets. You just can't find stuff that cute in stores. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
You’ve got options
Ok, let's talk about yarn for these. Because you've got options! I went with a fingering-weight single ply yarn (astrid from Seven Sisters Arts) held double with a bit of floofy mohair laceweight (abigail from HauteKnitYarn). I did that both because it's a gorgeous combo (and every bit as traffic cone bright in real life, seriously, it glows) and because I wanted to work at a fairly loose gauge. The mohair does a marvelous job of bulking up whatever it's held alongside, which lets you work at a loser gauge (fewer stitches per inch) but still get a solid feeling [...]
Tacit
Tacit is back! It's out in all the usual places (ravelry, payhip), and you can use the code ZIGZAG for a little something off for the first few days it's out. But before you use that, go check your email. If you had an earlier version of this pattern (and it was by far my best selling mitt pattern, so I know a bunch of you do...), you'll have the new one there waiting for you. Rampant Nonsense patrons will find it in their inboxes too. And of course anyone else who lets me send them email when stuff comes [...]
Brief demonstration
Ahem. A brief demonstration that I do actually have yarn that is neither floofy nor pink/orange/purple. Just in case you were worried. This is one of Seven Sisters Arts color wheels, and I'm using it to make some mitts to go with Constellate (all of which should be out soon, likely next month-ish). This is what happens if you work most of it with one end of a gradient, but work the fancy bits with the other end. It is also a demonstration that oh, oh yes, my stitches (especially on this pattern) are Super Duper Wobbly while I'm knitting. [...]
Yarn Math
I know math isn't everyone's favorite thing, but there's one Very Tiny Math Nugget that comes in super handy pretty much every time I knit something, so I want to make sure you have it in your bag of tricks. There's a point in pretty much every project where I find myself wanting to know 'how much yarn is that?' Sometimes I want to know 'how much yarn did I use in this hat?' Sometimes I want to know 'how much yarn is left in this ball?' Sometimes I want to know 'how much yarn do I need to make [...]
