Preserves
Earlier this month, we did a perfectly respectable, unquestionably useful, deeply practical hat. So of course this time we need to do something absurd, just to maintain balance. I'm pretty sure these strawberries qualify! There is absolutely nothing practical about them. They serve no useful purpose. And I'm not really sure I'm qualified to speak to respectability, but anything that red must have something to blush about. But knitting them made me happy, they feel absolutely delightful in my hands, and they seem to amuse everyone who sees them. Which seems like all I can reasonably ask for from a [...]
Semblance
That pretty little bit of business? The one with the speckles & the big fat yarn? The one I knit in two sittings? It's out! It's called Semblance, and you can find it on ravelry and payhip. This is one of those magical patterns that looks so much more complicated than it is. That fancy stitch? Yeah, it's precisely five stitches wise and two rows tall. And if you've ever worked even the most basic increases and decreases, you've totally already got the skills you need to work it (though of course, it's all explained in frankly alarming detail in [...]
Tethered
As always, I will not be attempting to convince you that you need these. I will not pretend that they serve any practical purpose. I will not suggest that they solve any of your problems. I will say only that you can sit down with your needles, a tiny ball of leftover yarn, and the pattern and stand up an hour or two later with a teeny tiny pair of mittens. What happens after that is up to you. So technically, these are for sale on both ravelry and payhip (and you can use the code SMITTEN to take 15% [...]
Gleaming
The sun sets here at 4:01pm today. The sun has been setting around 4 since the middle of November, and it will keep on setting around 4 until the middle of January. And I? I do not do well with mid afternoon sunsets. So when the dark starts to feel a little overwhelming, I make these. I cannot tell you why they help, but I know that they do. And I cannot promise they will help anyone else, but I suspect that they might. I suspect it because every year, when I share them online, I hear from so many [...]
Toasted
Toasted is out, and is quite possibly the most absurd thing I have ever spent my time knitting (which, given my track record on these things, is saying something). This one isn't for sale. Instead, it's a little present for anyone on the patreon or mailing list to say thank you for making this absurd year a bit more manageable. Now, no matter how many times I say 'hey, I'm sending this to mailing list folks soon,' there's always someone who misses the announcement. So, if you weren't on the mailing list this morning when the pattern went out, you [...]
Chilled
It's the first properly cold morning of the season here. The kind where you step outside (still in your jammies because that's been fine for the last six months and you've sort of forgotten about coats) and gasp and remember that winter is on its way. And, while I'm not actually at all ready for it to be winter, it does seem like a fitting morning to introduce our little penguin buddies. Their names are Penny and Gwen, and they run the local ice skating rink and throw really excellent parties. No really, their fancy dress ball is the social [...]
Rather nifty
It occurs to me that I have not properly shown you the inside of these. And that's a shame, for the inside is...rather nifty. It's also quite different on the contrast color version (that's the teal/gold one) than on the solid color version (that's the blue/purple one). And look, I knew the inside of the solid color one was pretty, so I expected the inside of the contrast color one to look cool too. But I did not expect THAT. And no, no I don't like the inside better than the front. But I do like it a whole [...]
Constellate Hat & Mitts
I told you I wasn't ready to be done with these! And, given my firm conviction that accessories are more fun in sets, it should surprise absolutely no one that there are now mitts to match the hat. Though even I admit to being surprised by just how very much I adore them (it's the thumb increases, they're just so pretty I can hardly stand it). And of course I had to do them with both a solid color option and a contrast color option. Because once you see how nifty the contrast color option is, I don't see how [...]
Binding
Can I promise that, if you make a stack of these, you will always know where your scissors (and needles, and stitch markers, and cable needles, and tape measure) are? I mean no, I can't in good conscience do that. I try not to lie to you. But I do think it will improve your odds! And at least if they're in one of these, then if your tools do go missing, you'll know they're off having an adventure together and no one will be lonely. I kind of love these. Like more than I usually love the absurd things [...]
